US: 4th of July celebrated with American flowers

During Independence Day in the US, red, white and blue flowers cannot be missed. The 4th of July also marks the final day of the third edition of the American Flowers Week. It's a week-long celebration of domestic flowers to raise consumer awareness and unite America’s flower farmers with the U.S. floral industry.

4th of July Flowers
Independence day is a day that is widely celebrated in the US and flowers are taking an important part in this celebration. For this reason, many US online flower shops, like FTD, 1-800 Flowers, fromyouflowers.com and ProFlowers plenty of 4th of July flowers, bouquets and gifts are on offer.

American Flowers Week
And American Flowers Week is making it an even more American holiday. It is a US domestic flower campaign co-produced by the Slow Flowers Podcast with Debra Prinzing and Slowflowers.com. It is a week-long celebration of domestic flowers to raise consumer awareness and unite America’s flower farmers with the U.S. floral industry. It is inspired by the British Flowers Week and is now being organized for the third time.

Prinzing has chosen to launch the campaign during the week coinciding with July 4th, America’s Independence Day. “Of course, like everyone in the Slow Flowers Movement, I believe that we should be celebrating American-grown flowers during all 52 weeks of the year,” she writes on www.americanflowersweek.com. “But by choosing to devote one full week to an awareness campaign, I believe we can heighten the attention on this cause – both in the media and in the public.”

Prinzing encouraged everyone involved in flower farming and floral design with America’s flowers to use the #americanflowersweek hashtag to draw attention to the campaign. And people did. Oregon Live made a compilation of funny photos of people posing with American Flowers that were posted on Twitter and Instagram last week.
