Australia: Tony’s Flowers goes solar
Special Projects Manager Paul Walker explained "the rise of electricity prices and a recent state-wide black out was a real concern for our business and for our customers. We trialed a 30 kW solar system at our Adelaide Hills farm earlier this year and based on the results we took the decision to install a 100 kW solar system at our facility in Adelaide." The 6500 m2 Adelaide facility is home to a bouquet making facility and a cash & carry, supplying the floral trade across South Australia & the Northern Territory.
CEO Tony Amorico added "South Australia has the highest power costs in the world, so for our business to remain sustainable and our commitment to our never ending improvement plan, we had to invest in the future. The support of the South Australian governments rebate system targeting 100% renewable energy program and the environmental benefits were all the incentives we needed. The next phase of our investment plan is to double the capacity and install a battery backup storage system."
