Leif Mortensen, EuroFlora:

"It might have been our best Mother's Day ever"

Good weather means good Mother's Day sales. It is often said, but is it true? According to Leif Mortensen, Managing Director at Danish flower and plant export company EuroFlora, it is. "We do not have any statistics yet, but this year might have been our best Mother's Day ever, at least the best over the last years. And this is 100 percent thanks to the fantastic weather", he says.

Leif Mortensen and Mikael Pedersen at the IPM Essen 2018 in Essen, Germany.

High demand
Euroflora exports Danish flowers and plants throughout Scandinavia, Germany and Austria and in these countries (except for Sweden), Mother's Day was celebrated on May 13 this year. According to Mortensen, they enjoyed great weather over the last weeks - and particularly last weekend - and this contributed to a high demand in every country.

Campanulas: top seller
The pot roses and campanulas are always Euroflora's top sellers for Mother's Days and this year the campanulas did very well. Also more hydrangeas were in higher demand this year. Next to the plants, the ceramics of their daughter company EuroTrend were in high demand as well. "Also for them, Mother's Day has been very successful this year."

Better year compared to last year
March, April and May are the three most important months for EuroFlora - around 40 to 50 percent is being sold in these months. This year, the sales per month have been quite different, but all in all probably more beneficial. "Last year, we had a fantastic March, bad April and OK May. This year, in contrast, we have had a bad March (due to the cold weather in Europe), good April and have a fantastic May, so far. And with Mother’s Day being celebrated in Sweden on May 27, I think, this year will be better for us."
