Vreeken Bouvardia

NL: Growing good Bouvardia sustainably

Florismart recently visited Vreeken Bouvardia. A new variety of Bouvardia was introduced last year: ‘Bouvardia Royal Sweet Roza’. The Florismart team were also taken away by ‘Diamond Sparkles’, a classy white variety. Time to take a closer look at their farm.

Long-lasting
The Bouvardia at Vreeken are grown traditionally, as a bush. This way the flowers can grow steadily and use all the available energy to grow strong stems with large umbels.

Every three years the bushes are replaced to maintain a high quality. Independent vase tests show the vase life of their Bouvardia can go up to 14 days.

Vreeken Bouvardia takes multiple actions to be sustainable. They are part of more than one project to reduce their carbon footprint. Their company is MPS A qualified. They reuse water and they maximise the use of biological crop protection. Next year they will install solar panels and they make use of equal tension exposure. This means lights go on and off where needed. A huge saver on energy and resources, and none of it is deducted from the flower’s quality.
