Benary expands its Chinese activities

In a new joint venture with Ican Horticulture Co., Ltd, German company Ernst Benary GmbH, is expanding its Chinese activities. The name of the new company is Tangchao Horticulture and will build and operate China's first integrated floriculture industry center, including a production facility for young plants and finished plants with a capacity of over 250 mio units. Further, the joint venture will include a state-of-the-art research and breeding center that will be led by Benary and focus especially on the development of flower varieties for the hot and humid climate.


The Tangchao project (Tang means Begonia and Chao means New Trends) 

In May 2021, the official founding ceremony of Tangchao Horticulture and Benary China Breeding Center Inc. project was held in Haicang District, Xiamen, China.

Tangchao covers a total area of 16 hectares with modern greenhouses of 75,000 square meters.  Parts of it will be dedicated to a begonia competence center, a "Global Begonia Show", and an European novelties trials base. The Tangchao project will be completed by the end of 2022

Matthias Redlefsen, CEO of Benary, said that the new breeding station in Xiamen plays an integral role in the global product development of Benary. Xiamen's suitable climate and its good business environment gives the German family business the confidence to continuously invest in this venture. Furthermore, Tangchao Horticulture will act as an industry bridge to the West and support companies from European horticulture to expand their business activities into Southeast China.
