Kekkilä-BVB has announced the investment in a new wood fiber production line in Grubbenvorst. Wood fiber is already one of the key raw materials in Kekkilä-BVB's growing media products worldwide.
The raw material for the wood fibers comes from side streams of various wood applications. This new investment enables Kekkilä-BVB to repurpose this side stream into new growing media for the horticulture industry.
Kekkilä-BVB's selected machinery processes wood fiber into various grades, from very fine for trays and substrates to coarse for larger pots. This technique enhances water retention and moisture-holding capabilities. Additionally, the wood fiber can be colored using a natural dye or left in its natural wood color, offering flexibility for diverse horticultural needs.

The new production line will be in operation from June 2025.
"We have been investing heavily in the innovation of new circular raw materials since 2021, and we are committed to double their share in our production volumes in 2027. This wood fiber line is one important step forward on that roadmap and helps us to meet the evolving demands of our customers across all segments and applications," comments Guido Linders, Senior Vice President of Commercial, Business Area Central Europe, Kekkilä-BVB.
