US (MI): Greenhouses and nurseries take preventative measures to protect plants
Greenhouses and nurseries have been busy all day doing preventative things before the dip in temperatures hits Northern Michigan.
"If what we do is successful, it's very controllable," says Scott Powell, nursery manager at Northern Pines Nursery.
Northern Pines Nursery in Lake City is doing everything they can to protect their Christmas trees from tonight's freeze. With such a unique crop, they can't afford to have a bad season. "So for us it is critical, out of our nursery we, every spring we dig about 1.9 million trees and so to throw that out of the loop really does a hindrance to us financially and so we do everything we can to really protect the trees that we have in the ground," says Powell.
