Fine-tuning your heating and cooling systems for summer

It doesn't matter if you're brand new to growing, or have an established operation that you've maintained for years. Summers can be unpredictable, offering weather that can be punishing one week, and completely compliant the next. It's important that your greenhouses' heating and cooling systems are properly tweaked for the warmer weather. Here are a few ways to get your ducks in a row when it comes to maintaining that ideal temperature range:

Keep up with maintenance by regulating lubrication, examining fan belts and motors, cleaning fan blades, and check parts that need replacements.

Take note of the various resistances to airflow that are associated with the design of the greenhouse.

Adding an evaporative cooling pad to the inlet opening or adding an insect screen will increase the resistance to airflow.

Utilize natural ventilation effectively.

Every piece of equipment requires attention to detail. Ensure that the components are serviced regularly.

If a piece of equipment isn't operating at its peak performance, it might be time to wholly replace your unit.
