Horticultural Entrepreneur's Prize

Family-run companies and the art of successful succession

Family-run companies are the focus of the 31st presentation of the Horticultural Entrepreneur's Prize on Wednesday, 11 January 2017.

The Horticultural Entrepreneur's Prize is presented to the entrepreneur who has demonstrated the most innovative and sustainable entrepreneurship. This year's nominees are JUB Holland from Noordwijkerhout, Green Specialties Holland from Lierop, and Bunnik Plants from Bleiswijk.

Family-run companies
This year's theme of 'Family-run companies, the art of successful succession' is reflected throughout the programme of the award ceremony. The news in the last few weeks has concentrated on the problem of company succession in the Dutch horticultural sector for entrepreneurs aged 55 and older. Research conducted by RSM Erasmus University revealed that company succession was only successful in 3 of every 10 companies.

Prof. Purcey Heugens of Erasmus University, Joyce Lansbergen of LG Flowers (gerbera grower from Pijnacker), Erwin van der Lans from Lans (tomato grower from Westland-Zeeland) and Dirk Ebben from Boomkwekerij Ebben (tree grower in Cuijk) describe how they arranged their family succession. Among the nominees, their family succession is already well planned.

The award is presented during the New Year's meeting of the horticultural sector. Entrepreneurs in the horticultural sector are very welcome. The meeting starts at 14:00 in the Keukenhof in Lisse.
