US: Bringing top talent to the floral industry

The American Floral Endowment (AFE) is once again aiming to attract young business professionals to the world of flowers through its Business Internship Program, now in its third year.

An Employer Resource Guide that was created to help companies build a successful internship program is also available, with easy-to-use guidelines and steps to create meaningful learning experiences for the next generation of business leaders.

Now's your chance to host an intern and help eager students contribute to your organization and the floral industry.

With support from participating industry organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada, students will gain practical business experience and develop essential skills to help the floral industry prosper.

Open to manufacturers, wholesalers/suppliers, retail floral shops, importers and growing operations, AFE will provide host employers with full-time interns in the following business-related areas:
  • Management
  • Accounting
  • Marketing/Communications
  • Information Technology
  • Sales
  • Analytics
  • Logistics
  • Digital Marketing
  • Graphic Design/Creative
  • Human Resources
Paid internships will range from 10 to 12 weeks and provide juniors, seniors and graduate students with exciting learning opportunities within the expanding floral industry.

After successful completion of an internship, students can qualify for one of four annual $2,500 scholarships.

The internship program was established in 2015 by a significant contribution from Del Demaree, Chairman of Syndicate Sales, Inc. and past AFE Chairman, who has more than 60 years of experience in the floral industry and strong business acumen.

AFE encourages companies to sign up to become a host employer as soon as possible, as students will be applying for 2018 internships between now and the October 1st deadline. Sign up at endowment.org/biz-host.
