Flower Logistics Africa returns with perishables in tow; Nairobi to play host

After the inaugural edition of Flower Logistics Africa (FLA) in Nairobi last year, the event returns to the Kenyan capital city for its second edition on 22 November 2017 at the Radisson Blu Hotel. For the second year running, Kenya Flower Council will be the official partner at this event. Bringing additional value to the participants and to Africa’s perishable exporters a separate logistics conference, Perishable Logistics Africa (PLA), will also take place at the same venue on 23 November 2017.

With “Enhancing Africa’s flower power through better logistics” as the core theme, FLA 2017 has already received the industry support from Kenya Flower Council, Cool Chain Association (CCA), Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) and Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA).

The inaugural edition of PLA with the theme of “Perishables: Creating Africa’s Future Logistics Grid” is supported by CCA, KEPHIS and EHPEA.

The two conferences are aimed to open dialogue and facilitate sharing of ideas, knowledge and practical solutions to improve logistics and supply chain performance of key perishable commodities exported from African countries. The two-day event, covering both flower and other cargo commodities like fruits, vegetable and meat, seeks to develop modern and cost efficient logistics and supply chain infrastructure within the African continent. FLA and PLA will bring under one roof global and regional providers of cold chain logistics, transport services and infrastructure, and will meet with Africa’s flower and perishable producers and shippers. The platform also provides participants to identify new opportunities that will allow African exporters to compete in global markets.

FLA 2017 will revisit some of the deliberations made last year to evaluate their progress besides aiming to enhance collaborative actions between growers and the rest of the stakeholders in the logistics value chain.

“We have planted the seed and have realized that we all have a stake in this conversation. We are looking forward to future talks. Much work still needs to be done and it all relies on collaboration between all suppliers and operators in the industry,” said Jane Ngige, CEO, Kenya Flower Council, about FLA.
