NL: Houweling builds largest solar panel roof of South Holland

Houweling Group from Bleiswijk, The Netherlands, is building the largest solar panel roof of the Dutch province of South Holland. This is partly possible due to the province's financial aid regulation named ‘Asbestos off, Sun on!’.

Houweling Group is located near the Klappolder in Bleiswijk. They are normally in the business of packaging products for horticulture and safety equipment like clothing and shoes. At the moment the preparations are being made. In four weeks the first panels will be placed. In 2019, the 46,550 square meter roof, needs to be almost entirely full of solar panels.

Working visit
“This is exactly what the regulation was meant for. Houweling Group uses a part of the solar energy itself and the rest is sold to the surrounding area in cooperation with an energy supplier”, said representative Han Weber during his working visit to the Houweling Group.

Asbestos off, Sun on!
The province has started the financial aid regulation called ‘Asbestos off, Sun on!’ to stimulate businesses like the Houweling Group from Bleiswijk in making their workplace more sustainable. Houweling Group now has 46,000 m2 of roof surface with which they will eventually generate 3.7 MWp of solar energy. The panels will be able to provide about 3,700 houses of electricity. To be able to apply for this financial aid the owner of the roofs must place a minimal of 40 kWp of solar panels. They can then receive €80.00 per kWp. The financial aid regulation will be viable till 2023.
