New Zealand: Fears after peonies flattened by snow

Naseby peony growers have an anxious wait to assess the damage to their flowers.

Snow in Central Otago yesterday flattened a good portion of crops just as harvest season was beginning.

Altitude Peonies owner John Smith said he would not know the full extent of damage until the weather cleared.

"I can pretty much tell you now we've lost at least half.''
