US (MI): Holland's new city greenhouse to be built by December

The Holland City Council approved a $559,756 bid to construct a 10,500-square-foot grow house.

The bid from CL Construction includes a 5 percent contingency, and additional concrete work. The funding will come from the city's Municipal Capital Improvement Fund budget. The grow house funding is included in the fiscal year 2020 budget.

The entire floor of the building will be concrete, which will create a safer and accessible walking area and help in keeping the floor clear of debris.

The structure will be located near the parks and cemetery building at 429 E. 24th St. It is replacing the 100-year-old historic greenhouse, which has been used to grow more than 100,000 plants and flowers for the city park system and other areas for years.
