Cercis canadensis 'Carolina Sweetheart', submitted by Joh. Stolwijk & Zn. from Boskoop, won the Plantarium Press Award in the category Garden, balcony and patio plants. In the Concepts category, the award went to Pottburri, submitted by F.N. Kempen from Mijndrecht.
The jury was unanimous about Pottburri: biodegradable pots that respond to the demand for non-plastic products. Its catchy name and nice colour make this an appealing concept. The Cercis canadensis 'Carolina Sweetheart' was a favourite of many of the judges. It is a Cercis canadensis with spectacularly variegated foliage. The tree puts on a colour show in various seasons and its average size makes it an excellent tree for gardens.
The Plantarium Press Award was presented by chairwoman of the jury Ann Richardson from Sweden, who works for the trade journal Viola, Viola Butik and Tidskriften Landskap.
Second and third place
In the category Garden plants, eight entries were judged by the jury. Second place went to the Acer palmatum ‘Extravaganza’, submitted by Van Son & Koot bv from Kaatsheuvel, and Helianthus SUNbelievable Brown Eyed Girl, submitted by F.N. Kempen from Mijndrecht came third. There were five entries in the category Concepts. Zero Plastic Tray by Colour Your Garden from Boskoop came second, and Colour Your Table by De Jong Plant B.V. from Boskoop won third place.
