Turkish ornamental exports set to increase to 125 million USD

The Turkish ornamental plants sector, which increased its exports by 17 percent last year and reached its target of 100 million dollars, focused on increasing its international sales to 125 million dollars by the end of 2019.

“As the sector is moving towards our goals, all actors need to be together. The 11th Flower Show Istanbul / Eurasia Plant Fair, which will be held in November, is one of the most important addresses that bring our industry together. This fair is of great importance in order for our companies to expand overseas, to show their products to new buyers and thus to increase export’’, said Ornamental Plants and Products Exporters Association Chairman Ismail Yılmaz, adding that as a union, they provided the fair to become one of the fairs supported by the Ministry of Commerce. In his statement, Yılmaz also shared that in the scope of this year’s Flower Show Istanbul / Eurasia Plant Fair, they also organized a purchasing delegation to ensure that the participating companies meet the purchasers.

According to sector data announced by Ornamental Plants and Products Exporters Association Chairman Ismail Yılmaz, a total of 74 million 920 thousand dollars of ornamental plants and products were exported in the first eight months of 2019. The Netherlands ranked first in the exports of the sector, followed by Germany, Uzbekistan, England, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Bulgaria. In the first eight months of the year, there was a 14% increase in exports to the Netherlands, 14% to Germany, 126% to Turkmenistan and 27% to Iraq.

On the other hand, in the period of January-August 2019, there was a 3% increase in value in the live plants group compared to the same period of the previous year, and 44.1 million dollars of export has been realized. In this product group, exports increased by 126% to Turkmenistan, 6% to Azerbaijan and 8% to Germany.

Flower Show Istanbul / Eurasia Plant Fair, which has become a hope for the export of its sector, will be organized by Tarsus Turkey at Tüyap Fair and Congress Centre in cooperation with SÜSBİR (Ornamental Plants Producers Sub-Association).

Hundreds of new products, materials, equipment and technologies from indoor and outdoor ornamental plants to flower and floriculture materials, from seedlings and seeds to vertical gardening applications, from exotic trees to national plants, from irrigation equipment to landscape applications and garden accessories will be exhibited together at the largest plant and landscape fair in Eurasia.
