United Selections holds open day in Nakuru, Kenya

Last week United Selections held their first open day of the year in Nakuru, Kenya. The theme of the day was “breeding a colourful future sustainably.” The event was well attended by Kenyan flower growers, suppliers and other stakeholders in the flower industry.

The breeder took the opportunity to highlight more of their spray roses such as Royal Magic, Tender Blossoms, and Pink Blossoms. But it’s the new codes that received a lot of reaction from the growers. These included; US-6052V (a beautiful red spray) and US-6037V.

Furthermore, the breeder introduced their latest member of the Madam’s Family – Madam Pink which they believe is going to be very popular in the market – piggybacking on the success of its predecessor – Madam Red. Other new varieties unveiled include; Capture (Pink), Mauna Loa (Baby Pink), Gladiator (Red), Snow White (White), and Sunny Confidential (Yellow).

Inauguration of the solar project
During the two days event, United selections celebrated their event theme by launching their solar project spear-headed by ecoligo a German-based company. The project comprises a ground-mounted solar photovoltaic system with a capacity of 110 kWp. The system provides the flower breeder with clean energy during the day, saving up to 113 tonnes of Carbon dioxide emissions per year.

This solar project was coordinated and implemented by ecoligo, which is also the project owner and operator, in cooperation with its partners. As the engineering and turnkey construction company, Yingli Namene Solar was responsible for the installation and takes care of the ongoing operation and maintenance of the system.

It is United Selection’s commitment to continue pursuing environmental-friendly ways of breeding a colourful future sustainably.
