China: Gansu Linxia develops high-end flower industry with expectations

Recently, the reporter learned in Linxia County that in order to build a high-end flower planting base, expand the proportion of domestic high-quality fresh cut flowers, and form a high-quality fresh cut flower market comparable to Colombia, Kenya, and other countries. The Linxia (China-Netherlands) International Flower Port project, which was jointly constructed by Linxia Baiyi Modern Agricultural Science and Technology Co., Ltd., Yunnan Aibida Company and BOM Company from the Netherlands, has started construction. After the completion of the first phase of the project, it is expected that annual production of more than 26 million fresh rose cut flowers will be achieved, with an annual operating income of more than 90 million RMB, providing about 300 employment positions, driving local farmers out of poverty and increasing income.

It is reported that the total investment of the project is 1.37 billion RMB and the first phase investment is 350 million RMB to build 10 hectares of smart greenhouses. Through the introduction of the Dutch greenhouse construction technologies, flower planting technologies and original seedlings, which are the leading level in the worldwide facility horticulture industry, the production of cut roses will be carried out all year round. The project has started construction and is scheduled to be put into production in October this year.

"The reason why Linxia was chosen is that after many investigations and comprehensive consideration of geographical location, climatic conditions, transportation distance, and other factors, Linxia is considered as an ideal place for developing the fresh cut flower industry." Huo Gang, deputy general manager of Linxia Baiyi Modern Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. said.

According to him, in 2017, the total production of fresh rose cut flowers was about 6.8 billion in China, but high-quality fresh cut flowers accounted for only 8%. With the improvement of people's consumption level, imported roses can no longer meet market demand. Therefore, they combined the Dutch advanced producing line and domestic reality to form their own production system. In the case of quality assurance, the price also has an advantage. Compared with imported fresh cut roses, the cost of a single branch can be reduced by about 50%.

In addition, the company will also transform high-tech technologies through technology R&D, and drive the cultivation of local high-quality, high-yield fresh-cut peony and other varieties of more than 100 hectares, with an annual increasing income of more than 40 million RMB.
