New boost for Sahin garden seeds

More than 10 years ago, in 2007, the Japanese breeder Takii took over the Dutch flower seed company K. SAHIN, Zaden. Since that time the collection, also a brand with a renowned name in the home garden world, has been a permanent part of the Takii range.

Since May 1, a change has been implemented in the delivery of the Sahin assortment. Takii will continue to supply larger customers directly, only, from now on, Muller Seeds will take care of the distribution of the seeds to small and medium-sized customers. “Our assortment increased with 500 new items,” says director Wim Zandwijk.

The collaboration was sought because Takii, for its part, wants to focus more on the key crops and key areas. Erik Vesseur, Head of Sales at Takii Europe: “We have experienced strong growth in recent years. As a seed breeder, we always have been quite broadly oriented, but because you cannot do everything, we have decided to specialize more.”

That is why a decision has been made: either to set up their own branch to arrange the small order distribution, or to seek cooperation with someone who already has the experience. “the latter was arranged, one meeting with Wim, with whom, by the way, we have been working together well for a longer period, and the win-win situation was evident. He has the network and is a good online retailer, we can focus more on our key accounts.”

Wim: “Small orders can be cumbersome for a large company. People want to have their orders arranged and delivered quickly. That is easier for us to realize, and moreover the extensive expansion of the assortment - especially many summer flowers - makes us even a bit more appealing to the market.”

Without question, there is synergy. Erik: “New customers now also see the Sahin range. That in turn generates new sales. Moreover, in the consumer market, where the name Sahin enjoys a certain reputation, the brand has been less visible in the past decade. We are much more in the B2B market, but Muller is much closer to that C, the consumer. This increases the supply reliability and speed, in short, we make use of each other's strengths."
