Submitted varieties
The Nyon International Trials are the only trials held in Switzerland and they are the first to have introduced in their regulations the notion of 'zero spraying'. This year, 88 varieties from 27 breeders in 13 different countries were in the competition. It is open to rose breeders, aims to promote new roses intended to embellish public and private gardens in strict respect of the environment and the regulations of the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS).
Main criteria
The development and vigour of the plants, the abundance of flowering, the natural resistance to pest and disease as well as the decorative aspect and scent of the flowers were the main criteria that were taken into consideration. Practical demonstrations, conferences and visits enables the general public, both adults and children, to come closer to the varieties.
Trial procedure
The varieties presented at the Nyon International Rose Trials were grown according to professional standards in terms of fertilization and watering. The soil pH was ~7 and no treatment was carried out to combat possible pest or disease attacks. The varieties were rated by 2 juries; a permanent jury of local specialists carried out at least 4 evaluations of the varieties submitted, using the WFRS evaluation sheet and an international jury composed of specialists, personalities and members of the permanent jury will evaluated the varieties presented at the trials on the day of the competition, using the WFRS evaluation sheet. The prizes were awarded according to the WFRS and the decisions taken by the 2 juries are not subject to appeal.
