Terra Nova Nurseries announced the progress and performance of its thousands of plants that were installed at Beijing Expo Park in the Yanqing District Beijing, China, in April 2020. Large quantities of coleus, coreopsis, echinacea, heuchera, kniphofia, tradescantia, and other genera in the designated “Terra Nova Garden” have become focal points at Beijing Expo Park. Guests of the park have been drawn to Terra Nova Nurseries’ plants because of their long flowering times, ability to attract birds and pollinators, and the plants’ colors and textures.

Terra Nova Nurseries worked in tandem with partner company and licensee Beijing Florascape Ltd., to ensure all logistics regarding planting and garden design were handled properly. Terra Nova’s recent planting at Beijing Expo Park was completed to continue the plant breeder’s mission of introducing more perennial varieties to the Chinese market.

“After the annuals bloomed in May and June, Terra Nova’s perennials really hit their stride and became some of the stars of the Beijing Expo Park,” said Kevin Chen, Asia sales representative for Terra Nova Nurseries. “Other growers and visitors became surprised at how fast the Terra Nova perennials grew to mature size and bloomed, especially the kniphofia.”

Terra Nova’s kniphofia varieties planted throughout the park have gained particular interest from other growers and tourists because of their ability to flower for long periods of time. Large plantings of Terra Nova’s Kniphofia Popsicle series have been identified by garden visitors as “flower seas” because of their dense and persistent flowering.

The site on which Beijing Expo Park currently operates was the host location of the 2019 International Horticultural Exhibition. Terra Nova was the only American company to display at the exhibition in 2019, and they showcased 60 varieties and a total of 50,000 plants.
