With the arrival of Floriday, growers see an opportunity to further professionalize their trade channels. Because the payment of orders is directly linked to the digital platform Floriday, buyers can order digitally based on the supply determined by the grower. This reduces the chance of errors, which makes the chain more efficient.
Additionally, alternative trade methods are disappearing for both buyer and grower. Given the ambitious deadline of end of 2020 and the size of this project, an increasing number of growers see opportunities in the broadening of their sales channels.
An example of this is Kwekerij de Opstal. They have opted for a Codema webshop, which provisionally pays on the basis of an auction letter, but can be switched to invoicing if necessary.
Omer Verschoor from Kwekerij de Opstal: “Broadly speaking, we see the need for FloraHolland to digitize further. And we are happy to participate with this. But such projects also involve risks. In order to reduce our dependence on a sole channel, we have chosen to also serve our buyers with our own webshop. An additional advantage is that from this webshop, all products will be presented the way we like it. We can also place orders through our webshop on behalf of customers who are not digitally literate. This can simply be done via a phone app. This way we are ready for the future, however it will look like."
