From now until early November, the Variety Display field of Gardengirls is open to visit. At the Lower Rhine Valley in Germany, the plants are set-up at their licensee Thomas Hönning*. The visitors can come without prior announcement, walking through, making pictures and evaluate our assortment and new varieties.
"In the second half of the busy Calluna season, the focus should be on the Late Line varieties, which are showing colour rather late", says Rudolf Sterkel, Sales and Marketing Manager for the brand. "The cultivars of the Sunset Line group are just starting to develop their colour festival potential. These are varieties with colourful foliage without any buds. The shelf life of Sunset-Girls can last well into spring."
Bronze for the new ‘Fruehe Lisbeth’
One of the new Gardengirls varieties, ‘Fruehe Lisbeth’ was awarded Bronze at Plantarium Digital Expo in Boskoop, the Netherlands, that was held last month. It was the only Calluna variety and sole foreign entry.
Gardengirls® variety ‘Fruehe Lisbeth’
"‘Fruehe Lisbeth’ has violet buds, showing colour as early as Mid-August. Therefore, this variety belongs to the Summer Line group. Our breeder Johannes van Leuven in Geldern-Lüllingen bred this introduction. The cultivar is approx. 2 weeks earlier than the standard ‘Lisbeth’."
