See how colourful winter hardy heather can be

Germany: Gardengirls forms cooperation with the Mainau Island Parks

It is autumn of 2020 and in the parks of the famous Mainau Island, in the Lake Constance just offshore the city of Constance in the 4 countries region of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland, the Calluna Gardengirls is being featured prominently. Almost every picturesque spot on this private island of Countess Bettina Bernadotte and her brother Count Björn shows how colourful winter hardy heather can be.

The Gardengirls licensee Friedrich in Friedrichshafen just across the lake on the other side produced mainly the plants. Martina Bauer of the Garden Planning Department of the Mainau designed the display items and the entire gardener crew planted the bowls, beds and the famous peacock. Gardengirls Heidezüchtung GmbH sponsored the plants and gave some professional advice.

Rudolf Sterkel, Sales- and Marketing Manager of the Gardengirls brand visited the island twice since July. He also made the pictures on October 8, 2020.

The Mainau Garden Director Markus Zeiler was very pleased with the outcome of the display areas. Both partners see the value for the park visitors as well as for the heather breeder as a promotional tool.

In addition, visitors can vote for their favourite combination of Sunset-Girls, those varieties with the long lasting, colourful foliage. Visitors of the park and the website www.mainau.de can choose from seven different combinations.
