Valentine Growers has achieved a milestone in this year’s Fairtrade awards ceremony held in Berlin Germany on 29th Oct 2020. This Kenyan grower is the winner in the Hired labour organisation category.
Fairtrade producers, workers, campaigners and traders have been honoured in the International Fairtrade Awards 2020. More than 80 applications from 30 countries were received across the four categories - Small Producer Organization (SPO) of the Year; Hired Labour Organization (HLO) of the Year; Trader of the Year and Campaign of the Year .
Valentine Growers was the only flower grower awarded and was the winner in the HLA category. The farm was recognised due to its prudent utilization of the fairtrade premium in improving the lives of its employees and the surrounding communities.

Valentine Growers, a Fairtrade flower grower near Nairobi, Kenya, where Fairtrade Premium is used to give workers and their families a better future. “We make sure the Premium is benefiting the workers, their families and the community members at large without any discrimination whatsoever,” says Dennis Gakuru, the Fairtrade Officer at Valentine Growers. “We try to focus on education, because education is the greatest investment these workers can make.”
