88 crowd investors contributed to realization of the 120 kWp solar system

Kenya: Second solar project for Zena Roses

For the second time in less than a year, Zena Roses decides to harness the power of the sun. After a first solar plant for the farm in Asai was financed by crowd investors* in 2019 and started producing solar power in March, a solar plant with a capacity of 180 kWp is now to be realized for the farm in Sosiani. Zena Roses hopes that this will further reduce its impact on the environment and make rose cultivation in Kenya even more sustainable.

Zena Roses is a Fairtrade certified rose grower in Kenya, which was founded in 1998 and has grown steadily since then. More than 1,000 employees are employed on the three farms belonging to the company, where they take care of the cultivation of various roses and other types of flowers. The Sosiani Farm itself, located a few kilometers southeast of Eldoret, employs about 200 people.

A 180 kWp photovoltaic system is now to be installed here, which will be split into two sub-systems. A 110 kWp system will be installed on the new factory roof of the farm and supplemented by a 70 kWp free-field system. This makes the new photovoltaic system even more powerful than the first solar plant with a capacity of 120 kWp, which has been supplying the rose farm in Asai with affordable solar power since the end of March.

Titus Saina, Manager of Sosiani Rose Farm, is delighted with the new system: "Zena Roses is proud to be part of a growing community of sustainable flower farms in Kenya. Thanks to ecoligo we have been able to use the power of the sun for our farm in Asai since the beginning of this year. We are very happy [...] that we will go one step further and start up another photovoltaic system for our farm in Sosiani. In this way, we will be able to further reduce our impact on the environment and grow our flowers in a sustainable way.

88 crowd investors have contributed to the realization of the 120 kWp solar system for the Asai Farm in 2019. Enable Zena Roses' Sosiani Farm to make the transition to solar energy. (On the project page you will find all important details and the possibility to support the project starting at 100€.)
