AU: Brisbane flower market on Valentine's Day

Wholesalers and florists at the Brisbane Flower Market are preparing for Valentine’s Day with hundreds of thousands of flowers being distributed across the state to ensure that romance can bloom this Sunday, 14 February.

Traditionally, when Valentine’s Day falls on the weekend, lovers tend to head out for romantic dates while flowers are more popular when the event falls on a weekday. But in a post-COVID lockdown society, florists are expecting strong delivery sales to continue in 2021.

“We have all spent more time at home over the past 12 months and flowers have become a popular way to reach out to loved ones we can’t see in person,” Brisbane Flower Market spokesperson Luke Leeson said.

“It is likely that Valentine’s Day will see this strong demand for flowers continue, so we recommend that people order their arrangements early to avoid disappointment.”

Brisbane Flower Market wholesalers have trucks arriving 24 hours a day to meet the expected demand with blossoms from Queensland’s growers, including those in Redlands, the Sunshine Coast and the Lockyer Valley, and further afield from Victoria and Tasmania, as well as imported flowers from Central America, Africa and India.

The Brisbane Flower Market is open to the public from 5am to 3pm weekdays, and will be open from 6am to 3pm on Saturday, 13 February and from 6am to 1pm on Sunday, 14 February.
