East Texas plant nursery loses 7 greenhouses to snow

Texas Wholesale Nursery, a plant nursery in East Texas experienced thousands of dollars of damage due to the recent winter storm.

The nursery lost seven greenhouses that collapsed due to the weight of the snow. Each greenhouse costs $5,000 to $10,000. “What happened is the oval ring, so much weight in the middle they ended up collapsing in the middle bending all the iron and ruining the greenhouse,” said Alexis Duran who is the co-owner.

A cost that could have been much worse as the plants in those greenhouse were spared from any damage from the snow or collapse. From evergreen shrubs to encore azaleas these plants are best sellers for the nursery and will help pay for the damages.

“It’s what keeps us going, so luckily we were blessed and none of it got injured,” said Duran.

Although it is an outcome they didn’t like to see the nursery has plans to rebuild these greenhouses within the next year. “We are going to try and rebuild the greenhouses that fell and pick up the pieces and go on from there,” said Duran. “Nothing we can do just put your boots on and go to work.”
