There are only 2 months left before the 10th China Flower Expo. In Shanghai Chongming Smart Ecological Flower Park, which is known as the supplier for the flower varieties and one of the exhibitors of this Flower Expo, there are multiple assembly working lines running at full speed for the preparation.
On February 8, the reporter saw a lively scene in the planting area, nursery area, and seedling management area in the fully automated production workshop of the Park. It is reported that during the Flower Expo, Chongming Smart Ecological Flower Park will supply more than 100 varieties, totaling 4 million pots of flowers. Among them, there are many ornamental or rare species such as Ptilotus exaltatus, Begonia tuberhybrida, and Astilbe chinensis. Mr. Song Lei, general manager of the production department of the Park, said: “These 4 million potted flowers are all intelligently controlled during the production process. The one in front that we can see is a planter. Our Park has introduced 4 such seeding lines, which have an efficiency of 200,000 plants per hour, and only 4 machines can reach 800,000 plants per hour."
In addition, the early germination, seedling cultivation, and potting of various flower varieties are realized here, and high-quality flower seedlings are finally selected and screened out to enter the greenhouse for the next step of cultivation. In the greenhouse, the first batch of flowers cultivated for the Flower Expo- Begonia has bloomed flowers. Besides, some new varieties that are not available in China will also be unveiled during the Expo. Mr. Song said frankly that, in fact, there is still a lot of technical pressure, because many of them are new varieties just introduced from abroad, and there is no complete planting technology plan yet in China for these specific varieties. The current method is to obtain relevant information from foreign countries, combined with the local and actual conditions of the greenhouse here, and let the technical department focus on tackling the problems in this aspect.
Mr. Song said that there is no time to be careless or sloppy because different varieties of flowers will bloom at different times. In order to be in line with the time of the Flower Expo, the cultivation time of each variety must be controlled properly. Some varieties have been sown and cultivated in October 2020, while others will not be sown until March 2021.
Mr. Song said that according to the plan, before the Spring Festival, half of the production task of flower seedlings used in the Flower Expo would be completed, and the other half will be concentrated to finish in March. "I think our efforts during this period of time are still very worthwhile. Through our efforts during this period of time, more than 100 varieties here we cultivated can be presented in the best condition for the 10th Shanghai Chongming Flower Expo as well as the visitors at that moment." Mr. Song said.
