With National Gardening week taking place this week in the UK, new research by thortful.com reveals that interest in gardening has flourished during the pandemic.
thortful, an online greetings card marketplace, analysed google trends data to reveal that over the last 12 months we’ve been getting our gardens ready for the change of seasons and the easing of lockdown restrictions – either that, or it’s a case of all the gear and no idea!
The findings show that garden furniture saw a 500% growth over the last 12 months, whilst ladies gardening set saw a 450% growth and gardening trousers a 300% growth. Other terms which enjoyed significant growth include:
Gardening for dummies – 250%+
Childrens gardening tools – 250%+
Personalised gardening gloves – 180%+
Two breakout queries include gardening shoes for women and gardening shoes for men, which indicates that gardening has become a popular pastime for many. However, the findings also show that some people don’t want to get their hands dirty with the query local gardeners in my area seeing 160% increase over the past year, whilst garden centres open near me saw 170% growth.
Meanwhile, those living in Liverpool are really pulling out all the stops with the search landscape gardeners Liverpool seeing a 1,950% increase over the past year.
There has also been an increase in demand for gardening gifts as the following search terms also enjoyed extensive growth over the past 12 month, indicating the growing interest in gardening in the UK:

Gardener gifts – 160% +
Gardening gift ideas – 160% +
