The destructive effects of coronavirus second wave have hit the livelihood of flower sellers and growers. Those who are completely dependent on this trade for their survival are in distress.
The months of March to May are the peak season for flower sellers as it is the season of marriages and religious function in the coastal districts. However, this time around the second lockdown has hit them badly. Generally, during the months of April and May, the monthly turnover would run into lac of rupees. Especially the demand for buds of jasmine and Red roses will be in high demand.
Though flower sellers are given time till 10 am, they hardly get one hour of business as it would be 9 am by the time the flower reaches the market after plucking and making it into bunches or garlands.
Most of the flowers get shriveled as they do not get sold in time. The outstanding loan amount of the growers and sellers is increasing day by day.
