Cut rose is one of the flowers with the largest planting area and market share among cut flowers in China. The market's demand for high-quality roses has gradually increased.
More and more Chinese rose growers have shifted from soil cultivation to soil-less cultivation. Especially leading rose growers in Yunnan have adopted substrate cultivation, which helps growers generate better quality and higher yield. Different from the traditional soil-based cultivation, substrate rose cultivation provides more precise control of water and fertilizer, consequently increase in rose production.
In the evolution from soil cultivation roses to substrate roses, some growers choose to use plastic troughs filled with loose substrate. However, with increasing demand for highly efficient rose production, more and more growers choose steel gutters with substrate bags. Compared with the plastic substrate troughs, the steel gutter comes together with a smaller volume of the substrate. Therefore, there will be a quick reaction on plants of water and fertilizer, which makes the planting management more active. At the same time, the steel gutter has better air circulation near the plantation area, which can reduce the rate of pests and diseases.

Meteor Systems recently delivered a project in Lijiang. Lijiang, at an altitude of 2,418 meters, is in southern China. The combination of high altitude and low latitude results in a climate that is characterized by relatively cooler summers and milder winters. The temperature swing is great daily, which creates one of the best climate conditions for rose production.
Lijiang Modern Flower Industrial Park is one of the five agricultural innovation demonstration parks in Yunnan Province. Lijiang Modern Flower Industrial Park is a modern agricultural industrial park integrating high-quality rose cultivation, scientific research and development, cold chain logistics, e-commerce, leisure and tourism, and entrepreneurial incubation. The total planned investment is 800 million RMB, and the planned core area is 5,000 acres. The first and second phases of the project cover an area of 2,100 acres. The planned construction period is three years, and 550,000 square meters of smart greenhouses will be completed and start production. In terms of output, the growing specialist Nemo Jia said they are aiming at 250 roses/m2 in the coming year with modern Dutch technology and equipment.
