Plants help solar panels perform better

Australian researchers from the University of Technology at Sydney have found that solar panels on a green roof were on average 3.63% more efficient and produced an average daily yield that was 13% higher than that on a conventional roof. To do this, two solar panel setups were compared.

After reports in Australian media, the message was also picked up on social media. The results are discussed in detail there.

The theory that solar panels that are cooled perform better is not new. The same theory underlies the use of floating solar panels. There, water provides cooling and the panels have an additional positive effect on water quality.
