Partrick Barendrecht, Flora MBG:

"We are much more than a label printer"

"From advice and design to printing, punching, and finishing, we do everything ourselves. This distinguishes us in the market and makes us an interesting party for growers and fresh produce companies looking for a reliable and creative partner to make their products stand out."

This is according to Partrick Barendrecht of Flora MGB, part of Mouthaan Printing Company in Papendrecht, the Netherlands, with a history that goes back almost 100 years.

Patrick has been working at Flora MGB for several years now and according to him, customized and innovative good products are highly sought after. "If a grower wants to differentiate themselves from the rest, they have come to the right place."

A good product is more or less guaranteed thanks to the presence of the knowledge and skills, but also because of the extensive machinery. Mouthaan has three printing presses, punching machines, folding-pasting machines, and more.

Recent developments within the fresh produce sector mainly regard sustainability. The interest in more sustainable materials, such as the Bio Kote cardboard developed by Flora MGB (an environmentally friendly, water-repellent cardboard, as an alternative to plastic), is increasing, and also in the production itself steps are being taken (less waste, etc.). "People want a sustainable look for their new pot covers, labels or packaging, and cardboard is often the choice. But there are many factors to consider: is it sturdy enough, does it get wet, do you want to be able to reuse it? We also offer durable plastic applications. We can offer our customers good advice because we have in-house knowledge."

Finally, sustainability also involves a bit of certification. Flora MGB is FSC certified for sustainable sourcing of the paper, but also BRC certified, ISO 9001 and 14001 to best serve the fresh produce sector as well.
