One gardener has cleverly turned old covid-19 lateral flow tests into useful plant labels to reduce waste.
Amy David, who runs Flourish Garden Care in Buckinghamshire, said she started using lateral flow tests after discovering they could be split apart, cleaned, and put back together differently.
'As I was sowing I realized I hadn't got any labels to hand,' Amy told. 'The week before I had done lots of lateral flow tests, all negative, which I hadn't thrown away yet. I thought to use it as a label, so washed it and discovered they could be split apart and then put back together in a different configuration.'
After each test had been cleaned, Amy hand-wrote the name of each plant on the front before using jute string to hang them from branches. Lateral flow tests are not suitable for recycling, so this hack is a great way to stop them from ending up in a landfill. Whether you have houseplants, balcony planters, an allotment, or a large garden, why not give the hack a go.
