US (KS): Hetlinger’s Planting Hope greenhouse nearly finished

Hetlinger’s newest addition, the Planting Hope greenhouse, is just about complete. Director Trudy Hutchinson says the greenhouse has been seen as a way to expand the activity list for Hetlinger clients.

Hutchinson says there have been some supply chain issues that have delayed certain aspects of construction, but just a handful of items remain before work is finished. A learning and life skills kitchen is part of the project, and part of the courtyard is being converted into an indoor multipurpose room.

Hutchinson says horticultural therapy helps with a range of life skills, and the goal of this new 2,100-square-foot greenhouse is to help clients create something meaningful. Plans will be finalized once Hetlinger hires a horticulturist to lead the program, but initial thoughts are wildflowers, transplantable vegetables, and other plants could be grown inside.
