Van Son & Koot is a leading grower with a wide range of garden plants. What is the secret behind the success of this dynamic grower? OZ Planten asked owner Sebastiaan van der Heijden what makes the nursery such a distinctive company.
Market leader in Acer palmatum
The Japanese maple tree is the grower's specialty. The company cultivates a complete range of 40 different varieties in various pot sizes, from bush form to trunk. This makes Van Son & Koot the European market leader in Acer palmatum.
Seductive butterfly bush
For a number of years, Van Son & Koot has included a number of its own improved varieties in its range. One of these is the Buddleja 'Butterfly Candy'. This is a butterfly shrub with a compact and round growth. This variety is available in 6 different colors—for example, the Buddleja 'Little Ruby' with its intense red flowers.
Exclusive garden plants
The broad assortment of the grower includes exclusive species. One example is Hydrangea Paniculata 'Switch Ophelia'. A true early bloomer in contrast to other panicle Hydrangeas. The flowers that appear as early as June will turn a deep pink in September.
Nature2Nature
The fact that Van Son & Koot is also strong in marketing concepts is demonstrated by the new Nature2Nature line. Four beautiful selections promote biodiversity. The themes 'Butterflies', 'Bees,' 'Bugs,' and 'Birds' bring more nature into the garden.
From plant to shop
The high quality of a garden plant alone is not enough to attract consumers' attention, according to Van Son & Koot. The team pays a lot of attention to marketing, from point-of-Sale material to complete shop concepts. The plants in the range are regularly featured in various media, in magazines, and on social media.
