Every month Dekker Chrysanten use Trade Talk to highlight one of the trading parties that sell varieties of Dekker Chrysanten in order to learn more about the company, the relationship with them as a breeder, and their experiences with one of the many chrysanthemum varieties Dekker has launched on the market.
This month they visited VIP Roses.
A real family business
Just like Dekker Chrysanten, VIP Roses is a real family business. It all started with a rose nursery, which was taken over from their parents by brothers Marc and Ed. In this nursery of 3.5 hectares, the Sassen family still produces the most exclusive varieties on a daily basis. Exclusivity is perhaps what characterizes this company the most. Anyone who walks around VIP Roses for even five minutes will immediately taste the love for hunting for that which is new, different, and surprising.
Very impressive product
That Ed and Marc succeeded in their hunt for novelties is also apparent from the massive line of painted and special flowers offered by the other branch of the family business. It was in the search for something new that Ed and Marc accidentally came across a unique paint technique. VIP Roses has now not only mastered dyeing but is also known for its flowers with so-called "toppings." All together, VIP Roses brightens the world daily with their Very Impressive Products (VIP).
One stop shop
As far as sales are concerned, everything from VIP Roses is traded under the roof of the flower auction. This means that exporters purchase their painted flowers via the link or the webshop, after which it is transported from VIP roses to the box of the exporter himself. In addition, Instagram also appears to be an essential sales tool for VIP Roses. The family business sees more and more requests from florists who have come across something beautiful and exciting on this platform. The florist puts the question to his or her own supplier, who then quickly knocks on the door of VIP Roses.
Enormous
When you enter the VIP Roses cold store, you immediately come across a large assortment of painted and special flowers. Of course, there are beautiful roses of very exclusive quality, but also tulips, peonies, hydrangeas, carnations, anthuriums, and many other varieties are available at VIP Roses in the most extraordinary colors. The assortment is rightly "enormous," and of course, the chrysanthemum should not be missing.
Podium spot
For more information about the range of chrysanthemums within VIP Roses, we contacted Brian Bosman. Brian, 25 years old, has been working at VIP Roses for 1.5 years as a buyer of chrysanthemums. The chrysanthemum is an important product group within VIP Roses and is currently number three of the most purchased products by VIP Roses. In particular, Santinis and disbudded chrysanthemums are frequently bought by Brian, with Antonov being one of the most purchased disbudded chrysanthemums.
Exclusivity is the standard
Antonov is a very attractive variety for VIP roses because it can be dyed very well. The so-called "earth" colors are particularly popular, which makes Antonov brownie and Antonov Latte two beloved products. Besides paintability, Antonov has a perfect shelf life, which makes this variety very attractive for export. Therefore, VIP Roses sees Antonov mainly being sold to the Eastern European market. Finally, the diameter of the flower is a huge plus, which is in line with the exclusive character of VIP Roses. Every product that leaves VIP Roses must have the WOW factor. And Antonov certainly lives up to that standard.
