The Junior League of Ann Arbor, a nonprofit organization of women focused on voluntarism and developing women's potential, will be hosting its annual poinsettia fundraiser through Wednesday, November 9. Proceeds go toward funding civic leadership training for women and continuing community impact projects, including literacy programs and hands-on cooking workshops in Washtenaw County.
In 2021, the league sold nearly 1,600 plants and raised $6,000, a goal it is hoping to match again this year. Donors can either purchase plants for themselves or donate plants to Meals on Wheels recipients and Arbor Hospice residents.
"By purchasing plants through the fundraiser, it's possible to give joy to someone in need or add beautiful color to your own home while supporting a local business and knowing that the proceeds are going back into community development programming," Sheri Chisholm, the chair of the fundraiser, wrote in a statement. "Junior League members have so much fun delivering the plants. When you see the faces of the people that you deliver to, they just light up!"
