The first results with the application of the dimmable LED grow light system from Climalux at Carnation Nursery Nieuwland in the Netherlands already show that energy costs have fallen by about a third compared to the same period in 2021. According to Chris Doelman, co-owner of the nursery from Hoek van Holland, it is an indication but the reality will not be much different.
Cost savings electricity
According to Doelman, the saving on electricity is caused by the dimming function of the grow lamp. “We can control both the light and the ventilation of the lamps automatically and independently of each other. In this way we control the light not only on the basis of light requirements and relative humidity, but also on the basis of current energy prices. With an astonishing result. We are already seeing huge cost savings of about 35%, although we still need to investigate the figures a bit further," said a satisfied Doelman.
Less gas consumption
In addition to the savings on electricity costs, Doelman also sees significant savings on gas consumption. Those figures have not yet been crystallized, but Doelman estimates that about 35% savings are realistic here too, caused by the heat from the grow lights, which raise the temperature in the greenhouse by about 2 to 3 degrees.
Stronger crop
Although they only started working with the LED grow light system at Carnation Nursery Nieuwland at the beginning of October, Doelman can already see that the crop responds very well to the light system with the vertical ventilation system. The crop looks strong and healthy for the time of year and it is expected that it can be grown for longer. Doelman says he needs to experiment with this even more, but he expects a lot from it because the flexibility of the system fits in with his vision to let the cultivation process move with nature.
The grow light
The CLX V1000 grow light is composed of a dimmable lighting unit and a vertical ventilation system, which distributes heat and moisture evenly in a greenhouse. The unit creates a microclimate around each plant, caused by the adjustable vertical air movement in combination with the adjustable light intensity. By correctly linking the lamps together in a total system, they together form a cluster of climate cells that contributes to climate equality throughout the greenhouse and guarantees significant cost savings.
