Kenya: Red Lands Roses expands greenhouse acreage to meet demand

Red Lands Roses Plc is in the process of expanding their greenhouse acreage by 7ha, which is expected to be completed by March 2023, bringing the total area of their cut rose farm to 35 ha. The key driver for the expansion is the high demand for Red Lands Roses products.

Apart from growing a high-quality and luxury product, Red Lands Roses Plc places a strong emphasis on the environment and their people. Since 2020 the farm is carbon neutral. This is in addition to other certifications MPS-A and KFC Silver Standard.

Increase in export markets
Red Lands Roses specializes in growing high quality, novelty, spray and garden roses for the high-end luxury segment at their farm in Ruiru, 35 minutes from Nairobi, at an altitude of 2000 meters. Flowers are sold directly to customers located all over the world. Customers can choose from over 180 varieties. One of the pillars of the brand strength is the long-vase life (between 12-14 days), and roses continue to open in a vase due to our harvesting process.

Certified carbon neutral company
Red Lands Roses is committed to carrying out its activities in an environmentally sustainable way. The farm annually assesses and implements projects to reduce its carbon emissions, and some of their initiatives include an integrated pest management system, 100% ferti-irrigation recycling system, green waste composting, introduction of paper tags and sleeves to eliminate single-use plastic sleeves, tree planting, solar energy to power 30% of their farm’s needs, staff bicycles (instead of staff bus), and wetland epilation of wastewater. In 2020, they achieved Carbon Neutrality. The assessment was carried out by One World Carbon.
