Midstream Lighting has completed its acquisition of Hyperion Grow Lights. Midstream will retain the Hyperion brand as its horticulture offering; under the leadership of former Hyperion Managing Director Jonathan Barton.
An experienced senior leader, Jonathan established the Plessey Semiconductors Grow Light business unit in 2016, then led its divestiture to become Hyperion Grow Lights in 2020. Now, as Midstream's Head of Horticulture, Jonathan will drive the integration of the brand – leveraging Midstream's cutting-edge solution design and global, multi-sector project capability to Hyperion's specialist horticulture experience.
Midstream plans significant ongoing investment into the Hyperion business unit to support both new and existing customers. This includes a previously reported 20,000-piece per year production line to deliver the innovative new Hyperion Pro and Pro Max grow light series.
Designed at Midstream's R&D center in Milan and integrating advanced lens technology with the latest high-efficiency LEDs and Hyperion's proven air cooling system, this new series offers significantly enhanced efficiency and productivity in the greenhouse.
The first installation of the new Hyperion Pro was recently completed at Pawel Karpinski's extended lettuce greenhouse in Poland. "This year, I have continued to invest in lettuce production, extending the greenhouse to 2.4ha and switching all lighting to LED. This is the 3rd time I have chosen Hyperion lamps because the crop grows well, with good quality and shelf life, and of course a lot less energy than the old HPS lamps."
The launch of these innovative new lights, combined with the increase in manufacturing capability, will be the catalysts for the expansion of Midstream's horticulture range throughout Europe and into major grower markets in North America.
