DE: Agricultural Minister of Colombia explores opportunities for cooperation

Frosty weather welcomed the Colombian delegation led by Minister of Agriculture Cecilia López in Kleinmachnow on 18 January. The minister used her visit to the Green Week in Berlin to visit the nearby JKI premises and met with JKI President Prof. Frank Ordon for exploratory talks. Ms. López was accompanied by the Colombian ambassador Yadir Salazar-Mejia and representatives of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

Left to right: Dr. Natalia Ruiz Morato (Institute for Agricultural Law of Göttingen University), Dr. Hella Kehlenbeck (Head of Institute for Strategies and Technology Assessment), Agricultural Minister Cecilia López-Montaño (Colombia), Prof. Dr. Frank Ordon (JKI President) and Ambassador Yadir Salazar-Mejia (Colombia). 2nd row: Dr. Florian Bittner (JKI research coordinator) and Gabriel Lazala (Colombian diplomat).

President Ordon welcomed the delegation and first gave an overview of the research and tasks of the Julius Kuehn Institute (JKI). Further explanations by the JKI research coordinator and the head of the JKI Institute for Strategies and Technology Assessment followed and led to a lively discussion. Much of the discussion centered on intensifying cooperation with the Colombian Agricultural Research Association (AGROSAVIA). The Colombian minister also showed great interest in the JKI's bee research.

As a next step, a video conference with representatives of the JKI and AGROSAVIA is planned, in which joint research topics will be defined, and possibilities for cooperation explored.
