Average area of Flemish ornamental crops rises slightly in 2021

Ornamental crops are grown on 4.4% of farms in Flanders. 3% of Flemish farms are specialized ornamental plant cultivation companies. The number of farms growing ornamentals has remained fairly stable in recent years. The average area of ornamental crops per farm is slightly increasing. In 2021, an average of 5.83 ha of ornamental crops will be grown per farm, according to updated figures from the platform with Agricultural Figures of the Flemish Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.

In 2021, there were 693 specialized ornamental crop farms with ornamental crops. On average, 7.32 ha of ornamental crops are grown on specialized ornamental horticulture farms.

The figure below shows the evolution of the number of companies with ornamental crops and the average area of ornamental crops per company. This evolution is shown as an index compared to 2001. The absolute figures are available on the platform.
