In less than two weeks, from March 29 - April 2, the California Spring Trials will be held again. This year, there will be 9 locations on the California coast to visit where nearly 40 breeders will present their new, potential, and existing varieties. So, what will be on display? Below is a sneak peek of some breeders and participating companies.
Viking® Explorer
Sakata
Sakata is featuring the best in seed and vegetative genetics displayed in inspirational applications throughout the company's Salinas, California greenhouse. This year's theme, 'Bring Color to Every Season,' illustrates Sakata's versatile and outstanding products focused on three-season longevity, extensive color array, and exceptional garden performance. Plant Development Services
In 2023, Plant Development Services, Inc. (PDSI) reaches some key milestones as the company debuts their innovative plant collection, BetterBoxwood®, and showcases top-performing new varieties from their celebrated family of brands. Danziger
Danziger in Gilroy will also have several new varieties on display. At CAST, visitors will see new for 2024 genetics as well as new growing programs and retail display concepts. One of their new varieties for 2024 is Colobri™ Spark Purple Calibrachoa. It is a variety with a new unique pattern that Danziger is adding to the Colibri™ Calibrachoa series.
"Colobri Spark Purple features a sunburst-style eye that adds depth and intrigue. This early flowering, controlled growth series requires very little PGRs, making it the perfect choice for small pot production and tidy hanging baskets", the breeder says. Granvia Gold
Quality Cuttings
At Quality Cuttings, also several new additions for 2023-2024 will be on display, and the Granvia Series of Suntory is one of them. "Granvia is much more impressive than a standard bracteantha. Full, vigorous plants and flowers are twice the size! Stunning in landscape beds and large patio pots. Resistant to mildew. Grow in gallon pots or larger", they say. Quality Cuttings will present their products at Green Fuse Botanicals in Somis.
