Plant webshop PLNTS exists 5 years

Online plant market grows exponentially

The online plant market has experienced impressive growth over the past five years. The factors that have made this growth possible are revealed in an analysis of the plant webshop PLNTS, which celebrated a feast last week to mark its first anniversary.

Firstly, consumers have actually discovered the possibility of ordering plants online. Moreover, the range is virtually unlimited and easily accessible, and the accompanying product information has become increasingly detailed. "The online plant market has broken through the traditional limitations of physical shops," PLNTS says, "consumers now have the freedom to choose from a wide range of plant species, varieties, and rare specimens, which were previously difficult to find in local garden centers."

Logistics
Another factor is logistics. Getting a plant from nursery to windowsill in good condition is a challenge, on which all links in the chain have had to learn to act. Great strides have been made here, "with the improvement of logistics infrastructure and packaging techniques, plants can now be shipped safely and delivered quickly to consumers."

Covid boost online
The recent Covid years, as they know at PLNTS, have fueled online plant sales in more ways than one. Being - and working - at home more has fuelled interest in greenery in the home and a healthy lifestyle in general; flowers and plants brighten up indoor spaces; consumers could not eat out or go on holiday and thus had more budget available etc.

Most sold
Over the past five years, PLNTS itself, which incidentally is also celebrating its fifth anniversary, has seen an impressive rise in the popularity of houseplants, with certain species consistently topping the list. The five most popular plants are: Monstera Adansonii, Philodendron Melanochrysum, Philodendron Verrucosum, Calathea White Fusion, and finally Syngonium Mottled.

PLNTS celebrates 5th anniversary
Last week, PLNTS marked its fifth anniversary with an event that brought together plant lovers, influencers, designers, and associates. The anniversary festivities consisted of a brunch where influencers from the plant world came together, interactive workshops conducted by designers, and an exhibition where PLNTS artfully gave a stage to its most special plants and shared the story behind the webshop.
