Richard Hollander, 58, of Heath, Texas, co-owner of Abbott-IPCO INC. and Classic Caladiums, passed unexpectedly and peacefully on June 19, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born in Hillegom in the Netherlands, on March 3, 1965, to Harry and Hetty Hollander. They moved to Dallas when he was 6 months old.
Richard graduated from Jesuit High School in 1983 and Texas Tech University with a bachelor's degree in business and a minor in finance in 1988. He was a profound member of the Delta Chi fraternity, where he met many of his lifelong friends.
Richard played many years of soccer throughout his young life. He was a member of the Gunner's '65 team, who won many state and national championships. They traveled to many countries to play in tournaments. They played in Mexico, Canada, and the championship game of the Gothia Cup in Sweden. He played varsity soccer at Jesuit as a freshman winning most state titles. During his college years, he played soccer and scored the greatest goal of his soccer career and won the game. Richard considered this a great achievement.
Richard devoted many years at Camp Esperanza, counseling children with cancer as a result of winning his battle.
Richard has one brother Marvin who he jointly carried on their father's legacy through continuing their horticulture business of nearly 50 years. Together they have built a business that is able to sustain many families who contribute to its success daily. With the help of both Abbott-IPCO and Classic Caladiums teams, many goals were achieved. Bringing the companies to new heights was a noted professional achievement. Leaving a legacy that will now transition to a third generation that includes his son. This legacy was one of his greatest last joys.
Richard has one son, Ryan, whom he enjoyed watching grow into a wonderful young man. Ryan was truly his "Pride and Joy." He enjoyed learning how to cook for his family, carrying on many of his mother's Dutch recipes. He was the voice of the Hollander Family. Richard was an amazing strong father, son, brother, and friend.
Richard enjoyed traveling the world. He enjoyed site sightseeing and visiting many museums along the way. He spoke many times about his trek throughout the nation, visiting historic baseball parks and seeing many professional games in the wake. He also was an avid golfer and traveled to many extravagant courses where many professional golfers have played. Richard was happiest listening to his favorite blues and rock artists. He famed himself by collecting signed memorabilia, attending their concerts live, and meeting the artists backstage.
Richard was a collector of Presidential Coins, Culture Stamps, baseball cards, sports, and music memorabilia.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Harry, and wife Janice. He is survived by his son Ryan, mother Hetty, brother Marvin, sister-in-law Felicia, nephews Jake and Jason, niece Katie, and extended family in Holland.
Richards Celebration of Life was held on June 27, 2023, at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas.
