Louis van Dijke:

Oriental Group confident in future market growth

During the Covid years, sales of flowers and plants were sky high. Meeting the demand became a challenge, as was also the case for Oriental Group from Bleiswijk, the Netherlands. Now sales calmed and it's time to invest in the future, commercial manager Louis van Dijke tells us. A new website with a new corporate video was launched recently, while simultaneously the grower is on the look out for experienced personnel.

"In absolute numbers, we are selling a bit less this year. However, I'm confident this is temporarily, in the coming years it will pick up again," says Louis. "We sell to the mor luxurious part of the market, meaning the consumer, although being a bit cautious now, will be ready to buy something nice again once he feels like it. You'll see, in the fourth quarter of this year, when people forgot about their summer holidays and days are getting short and cold again, there should be something beautiful inside."

Challenges, however, are always there. " Our biggest concern is good employees. In terms of logistics we got things covered, but in engineering and commerce, extra talent is always welcome. Most urgently, we are looking for a creative product developer who can put together arrangements based on current colors and trends."

On an annual basis, Oriental Group imports over 400 containers of plants and added value from the Far East. The company can provide a year-round availability of Bonsai, Ficus, Ginseng, Lucky Bamboo cactus varieties , and more. They specialized in day trading, meaning every customer can order daily from one tray to 5,000 boxes. Besides, Oriental offers a wide range of arrangements.
