Grower grows more resistant plants at high altitude in his greenhouse in Turkey

Mehmet Sakarya, who grows ornamental plants in the greenhouse he built at an altitude of 900 in Bursa, grows his plants with the melting snow waters from Uludag. Stating that the region they are located in is much higher than the sea level, Sakarya said that the plants grown here are of higher quality and longer lasting than those grown in other regions.

Mehmet Sakarya, who grows ornamental plants in the greenhouse he established in Keles district, stated that there is no disease in the soil since there are no producers growing other ornamental plants around the region where his greenhouse is located.

Underlining that ornamental plants are generally grown in places close to sea level, Sakarya said that they can grow both high-quality and long-lasting ornamental plants by getting higher yields in the greenhouse they set up at an altitude of 900.

Indicating that they also water the plants they grow with the melting snow water from Uludag mountain, Sakarya stated that in this way, the plants get used to the fertilizer faster.

Sakarya, which started production with very limited financial resources, said that they have come a long way in a short time. Stating that the climate conditions and natural water coming from Uludag mountains are behind his success, Sakarya said, "We established our cooperative in 2017 with 7 people with the dream of becoming a grower. Due to financial difficulties, we were able to start production in 2020. We could not get support from public institutions. Finally, in 2020, we started receiving some funding from public institutions.

We have been producing since 2020. Compared to sea-level growers like in Yalova, we are in very good shape. The main items of our production are seasonal plants. We grow petunia, begonia, and velvet as summer plants. In winter, we grow violet, primrose, chrysanthemum, and cyclamen-style plants. Climate and water help us a lot in this regard. Some of the most essential items in plant production are air and water. There are some features that the plant is looking for. The quality of the water we use is very high. It makes a serious contribution to the plant. The plant quickly absorbs the fertilizers we give with the water. Therefore, quality products emerge. We use mountain water here, so we're better off than our competitors at sea level. That's why our plants have a long lifespan. The reason why we are successful in production is climate and water.

We grow our plants in a more hygienic area. Since it is not common in this region to grow plants, we are the first to produce them. Therefore, there is no disease here. We spend 45 days in the seed-planting period, and it takes 45 days to germinate. The plants are fully grown 1 month after germination. Our products go to the central parts of Bursa and decorate the parks and green areas of the city."
