G 20 First Spouses witnessed the enormous diversity of floricultural wealth displayed by ICAR- Directorate of Floricultural Research and ICAR- National Research Centre of Orchids at a special exhibition organized at the Convention Centre, NASC Complex, New Delhi. A number of orchid hybrids belonging to 16 genera from ICAR-NRC orchids, varieties and hybrids of rose, tuberose, marigold, chrysanthemum, jasmine, and gladiolus developed by ICAR-DFR, ICAR-IIHR, ICAR-IARI, AICRP on Floriculture centers were showcased. Some of the unique flowers and their value-added products from the Growers Flower Council of India and FPOs supported by ICAR-DFR were also on display.
The dignitaries evinced keen interest in the traditional flowers and their unique way of use in India. They were also keen to understand the diversity of value-added products like essential oils, pigments, natural colors, floral teas, preserves, incense sticks, bakery products, dry flowers, and epoxy resin-embedded products.
Earlier, Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), and other senior officials of ICAR headquarters witnessed the floral diversity of Indian flowers.
ICAR-DFR, Pune, and ICAR-IARI made a floral replica of Chandrayan 3 as a unique way to express gratitude and compliments to Team ISRO from Team ICAR for achieving a unique milestone of landing on the south pole of the Moon for the first time in the world.
